As a Rewilding Business Partner, Burness Paull will provide pro bono legal advice to help SCOTLAND: The Big Picture as they work to create a wilder, more resilient Scotland, supporting biodiversity, addressing climate breakdown and providing economic benefit to rural communities.

SCOTLAND: The Big Picture works to improve understanding of the benefits and opportunities rewilding can bring and helps deliver practical change on the ground through an extensive network of land partners.

The pro bono advice, which will involve lawyers from across the firm, will directly support the charity’s Northwoods Rewilding Network, a pioneering initiative connecting a growing community of farmers, crofters, community groups and other landowners who currently steward over 25,000 acres of land across Scotland. By providing legal expertise, Burness Paull will help to accelerate their efforts in creating vibrant, nature-rich landscapes, fostering biodiversity, and promoting sustainable land management practices.

Mark Ellis, Managing Partner at Burness Paull said: “Every organisation makes an impact on the planet and society and as a firm, we’re committed to making our environmental impact as positive as possible. We’re always looking for fresh new ways to engage with our communities where we can make a difference, and so I’m very pleased that we are able to use our expertise from across the firm to support SCOTLAND: The Big Picture in their fantastic work restoring and protecting our natural landscapes.”

Peter Cairns, Executive Director of SCOTLAND: The Big Picture said: "We are delighted to welcome Burness Paull as a Rewilding Business Partner and exclusive pro-bono legal partner. Together our partnership will make more rewilding happen across Scotland.

Despite its obvious beauty and drama, Scotland has endured centuries of ecological decline, leaving us as one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world.

It doesn’t have to be this way. With the support of businesses like Burness Paull, we can collaborate with landowners and land managers to create a vast network of rewilded land and water across Scotland, where wildlife flourishes and people thrive.”
