WEST TEMPAR & LASSINTULLICH
West Tempar & Lassintullich are located at the east end of the Rannoch glen, within a National Scenic Area and alongside the striking conical massif of Schiehallion – one of Scotland’s most iconic Munros. The landholding encompasses a rich mosaic of habitats: to the north, low-lying fen meadow and wetlands along the Upper Tummel River – part of the River Tay SAC designation and the Dunalastair Water SSSI; to the south, the land encompasses a mix of species-rich grassland and native woodland, rising to Carn Mairg and rugged heather moorland – also designated as a SSSI for the montane habitats it supports.
The farm produces wild-grazed beef from its native Luing cattle. A Highland Life encourages guests to stay in its authentic Highland accommodation, to set out on adventures and to explore the surroundings, making memories they will value for life. Already well advanced on their nature-recovery journey, the owners have ambitious plans to further enhance the health and resilience of ecosystems and to create a positive legacy.
Key rewilding commitments:
- MORE NATIVE WOODLAND: Explore opportunities for planting new woodlands to improve habitat mosaic.
- MORE SPACE FOR WATER: Increase the amount of standing water by creating new ponds and installing peatland grips - to benefit invertebrates and other wildlife
- JOINED UP HABITATS: Improve habitat connectivity by planting hedgerows and installing ‘seed islands’ of native trees.
- LET NATURE LEAD: Look for opportunities to improve woodland habitat by increasing amount of deadwood and removing non-native trees
- REINSTATE NATURAL GRAZING: Continue using wild grazing with native Luing cattle and Tamworth pigs - for associated soil and biodiversity benefits.
