Tigh-Scoraig is one of the original crofts on the Scoraig peninsula – the dramatic finger of land between Loch Broom and Little Loch Broom that stetches out into the North Minch. The landholding lies to the south of the heather-dominated Common Grazings, and consists of a rocky coastline, a planted woodland and fields that have historically been intensively grazed. Plans now exist to replace the sheep on the croft with a small herd of low impact native Galloway cattle to improve soil health and plant diversity.
Key rewilding commitments:
- MORE NATIVE WOODLAND: Encourage natural expansion of trees and woodland ground-flora
- MORE SPACE FOR WATER: Return natural hydrology and increase the amount of standing water (for the benefit of invertebrates and other wildlife) by blocking drainage ditches.
- WILDER GRAZING: Introduce biodiversity-benefiting Galloway cattle in place of selective-grazing sheep to restore natural vegetative succession
- REWILDING ENTERPRISE: Develop low, intensity high quality beef sales to help sustain nature recovery efforts
