Loch Na Bo is a magical place a few miles south of the Moray coast. At the heart is a stunning loch, that provides a home for a diverse range of water birds. The loch is surrounded by multi-tiered and multi-aged Scots pine and birch woodland – an amenity for both locals and visitors. Two smaller lochans within the woods provide high-quality habitat for dragonflies and other wildlife.
Key rewilding commitments:
- MORE SPACE FOR WATER: Remove non-native skunk cabbage from Loch outflow
- RETURN MISSING SPECIES: Consider enrichment planting within the woodland of missing native tree species (e.g. juniper, aspen, honeysuckle)
- LET NATURE LEAD: Undertake programme to remove non-native rhododendron ponticum from the Scots pine woodlands
- CONNECT WITH COMMUNITIES: Seek opportunities to increase community engagement
- CREATE REWILDING BUSINESS: Explore opportunities for small-scale food production and nature-based tourism
“We know we have been entrusted with the stewardship of a special place. If we can help encourage nature here, and share that nature with others, we will have played our part ”
