NRN PARTNER: Drumnagarrow Farm

DRUMNAGARROW FARM

Location:
Glenbuchat, Aberdeenshire
Area Committed:
126 acres

Drumnagarrow Farm, on the eastern edge of the Cairngorms National Park, is an old settlement that has among the best views in the glen. After decades of intensive grazing, it is now embarking on a journey that will see both native cattle and native tree species return. Actions for delivering soil health, species abundance and nature-friendly enterprise are now at the heart of plans for its future.

Key rewilding commitments:

  • MORE NATIVE WOODLAND: Substantially increase native broadleaf woodland through new planting
  • MORE SPACE FOR WATER: Add scrapes and ponds to benefit multiple species, including waders
  • RETURN MISSING SPECIES:  Reintroduce aspen to the landholding, and create an extensive species-rich grassland
  • CREATE REWILDING BUSINESS: Build a low-energy tourism business, and develop a small native-tree nursery
