Drummuir Home Farm lies to the north of the Cairngorms National Park. It has for many years practiced organic farming principles. Centred on a picturesque loch, the landholding contains a mosaic of habitats in which natural ecosystems are recovering. The loch is surrounded by broadleaf woodlands; and the burn which flows from it, has over time, created a dynamic riparian habitat of wet pasture and woods as it flows across through a steep-sided floodplain.
Key rewilding commitments:
- MORE NATIVE WOODLAND: Create more patches of native woodland to improve habitat mosaic.
- WILDER RIVERS: Undertake riparian enrichment planting to increase aspen presence.
- JOINED UP HABITATS: Removing redundant deer fencing around maturing broadleaf woodlands.
- RETURN MISSING SPECIES: Investigate possibilities for beaver translocation; and take practical steps to increase site for beaver readiness.
- LET NATURE LEAD: Explore creation of perennial wildflower meadows by sowing yellow rattle.
- REINSTATE NATURAL GRAZING: Introduce native cattle for purposes of natural grazing and habitat improvement.
- CONNECT WITH COMMUNITIES: Drive interaction with local communities, including by improving and encouraging use of the path network.
